Dear Parents and Guardians,

I'm so excited to be your student's science teacher.  7th Grade science is very interesting, relevant to every day life and a ton of fun.  My goals are to provide a safe, engaging, and stimulating classroom atmosphere where every student is challenged.  If you have any questions about class, your student's progress or if you'd like to volunteer for class or team activities, please contact me.  I look forward to getting know your student and working with you and your student.

Sincerely,

Stacy Lovdahl

Communication is Essential

Communication is very important and takes time in our busy, stressful lives.    Here are some of the tools we have to communicate.

Email:  One of the best ways to communicate with me is via email.  MCMS is very internet friendly.   I check my email every morning and every afternoon.  My email address is stacy_lovdahl @ sign catawbaschools dot net.  Remove the spaces to use the address.  I send out emails periodically to any parent who would like updates on homework and projects.  Click here to be added to the homework notification email list.

Agenda:  Science students are instructed to write in their agenda EVERY DAY in my class.  The topic for class and homework are posted on the board EVERY DAY.  If there's no homework, they should write "no homework".  If you look at your child's agenda and there's nothing written in it, it's because they have not been bringing it to class or they are choosing not to write in it.  This is our Class Procedure for the agenda.

Use the agenda to check on what's going on in science class.

Write me a note if you need information or to inform me of things.  I will write a note back to you in the agenda or call you.

Phone Calls:  Call me at school (704-462-1827) and if I'm in class, leave me a voice mail message.  My extension is ___

Website:  I update the website on the weekends and sometimes during the week.  The website is good for checking on homework and projects, finding a list of the grades for the quarter and for finding out what papers should be studied in the student's science notebook.  The website also has resources for studying.  Our new science books are completely online at www.hrw.com

Study Skills

Most middle schoolers need to develop solid study skills.  Good study habits that will pay off as subjects become more challenging in 7th and  8th grade and in high school.  The student agenda has some excellent tips for studying.  In addition, there are many websites with study skill information.
